Other Song Meanings

These are the meanings of the songs that are not included on any of the girls’ four studio albums. I wrote these interpretations myself as they were not provided.

“Be Like You” (recorded for “Different Kind of Free”)

This is a song of a Christian desiring to be just like God and to please Him in every possible way. It is a poignant song of surrender, asking God to shape us unto his likeness so that we can glorify Him and present Him in his very essence.

“Higher” (duet with the Katinas from the “It Takes 2: 15 Collaborations and Duets” CD)

This is a very simplistic R&B style worship song that ZOEgirl recorded with The Katinas. It is more of a Katinas’ style song than ZOEgirl’s regular pop. It is a song that expresses one’s desire to come closer to Jesus and be taken “higher”. “So I near/with arms open wide/I want to be/drawn to Your side…” The song is simple, but it is enhanced by the beautiful melodious voices of the Katina brothers and Kristin, Chrissy and Alisa.

“I’ll Try” (Not sure where this is from)

This is a simple, light, song about two friends trying to work out their differences and stop arguing with each other. “I want to learn from your mistakes/and respect the stance you take..”

“It’s Hard to Be a Girl” (from the “LIFE” Limited Edition Single)

This song is an anthem for Christian girls to stick together and fight against the evil things imposed against them that are of the world. “I’m a girl living in a world/where wrong is right/and my body is more important than my mind”. It’s a song encouraging unification among believers. The principles and standards of this world are hard to meet, especially when you are also trying to meet Jesus’ standards. This song is about how difficult it is to be a girl, let alone a girl who is also trying to follow Jesus. That is why it is important for girls to confide in each other and stick together.

“Jesus Lover of My Soul” (from the “WOW Worship” [Red] CD)

This is an amazing worship song ZOEgirl recorded for a compilation album. This song is a song of surrender to Jesus. It is also saying that our lives and what we do each is day is not about us, but it is all to glorify him. “It’s all about You, Jesus/And all this is for You/For Your glory and Your fame.”

“Last Real Love” (recorded for “Room to Breathe”)

This is a song about not getting lost in the things the world imposes on us. “You gotta be careful what you follow”. With all the false doctrine and prophets out there, us Christians really have to think before we act and accept a certain teaching. This beautiful song is a reminder of that. The only thing we can really trust is the love we have from God, the “last real love.”

“One Day” (from “With All of My Heart: The Greatest Hits”)

This song is very different in both style and substance. It has a different pop vibe to it than most of ZOEgirl’s other songs. Also, it is not a song of praise or a song that expresses an issue. This is a song about the second coming of Jesus and the pre-tribulation rapture. “When You open up the skies/I will be free from this shell/And I will fly…” Most artists do not speak about these important issues at all, so it is great that ZOEgirl actually recorded a song about this.

“Save Myself” (from the “LIFE” Limited Edition Single and “Mix it Up”)

This is an incredible hip-hop song about how no matter what strengths we possess, such as having unshakeable faith or the ability to defy gravity, we can never save ourselves. Regardless of a person’s abilities, they cannot do the most important thing themselves, which is ensuring they have a place to spend eternity. That is why everyone, no matter their wealth, health or capability, needs Jesus. “It doesn’t matter if I have faith to move a mountain/drink the oceans dry/baby I could never save myself/it doesn’t matter if I/could reach into the deepest corners of my mind/baby I could never save myself”.

“Unchangeable” (from “With all of My Heart: The Greatest Hits”)

This is a song of praise, expressing one’s gratitude to God about how He never changes, and His promises are true now and forevermore. “Time after time I see/Every little thing you do and all You say/Turns out to be for real/And all Your promises come true/Now I have all the things I need/To live for You…”
